Meet Yana IVF

When Yana IVF opened its doors in 2015, it embarked on a mission to help couples achieve their dream of parenthood, offering fertility treatments like IVF and IUI using state-of-the-art, cutting-edge technology. The name quickly became a trusted partner for many couples, as they prioritized customization and focused on providing personalized care to each patient who walked through their door.

Having established themselves as a leader in fertility treatments, Yana wanted to take the next step towards ensuring that patients feel even more comfortable, informed, and confident throughout the process.

The journey toward parenthood can often feel daunting, and Yana aimed to create an environment where the patient received the utmost care, respect, and attention, starting from their lobby experience. They wanted to provide their patients with a better visual understanding of the process so as to create a proactive IVF journey by making the counseling sessions efficient. Yana realized that to truly fulfill their mission, they needed to do more than just provide medical solutions—they needed to offer hope, clarity, and reassurance. They needed to completely transform the patient experience.

This is where LumeXR came in.

What Yana Needed from Us | XR’s impact on Yana

Yana approached us to create a personalized, immersive experience to help patients understand the IVF process, reduce anxiety, and establish a deeper trust in their care. The IVF process can seem overwhelming to those experiencing it. Complex medical jargon, intricate procedures, and not to mention the physical and emotional toll it takes can leave couples feeling anxious and unclear.

Our Creation Process | Our XR Creation Process

We began by doing a deep dive into the IVF procedure in order to get a better understanding of it ourselves. We took the time to learn the process, break down the different stages and create a script. We ensured the visual and auditory palette would set a calming tone for the whole experience. It was a close collaboration with the team at Yana to make sure we covered everything they required.

We moved to prototyping in Resonite, a metaverse creation tool that allowed us to visualize the experience in 3D before actually developing it in Unity. This allowed us to iterate faster and picture how the whole experience would come together spatially. We went about this carefully as we wanted to ensure that all the 3D models we created were medically accurate. Spatial awareness and spatial design was ensured by prototyping the entire process as different stages in a virtual environment. This aimed to ensure continuity in storytelling and filled the gaps in script or voiceover.

Once we were happy with how it looked and got confirmation from the doctors at Yana, we created the actual experience in Unity, making use of the Oculus Integration SDK. We worked closely with their doctors and embryologists to ensure that the content matched how the process was carried out at their clinic. Blending form and movement together with the narrative, we created a calm and soothing ambience. To make the experience engaging to the patient, we took creative liberties such as using motion design and drawing cinematic inspiration while staying true to the content of the procedure.

We also employed Meta’s Shared Spatial Anchors to ensure that both users see the 3D models in a shared view, with the positions matching across both headsets in mixed reality. This means that if one patient points at a virtual 3D object in their view, it will be at the same location as their partner, making it a more shared and intuitive experience. We also ensured that the app synchronized between the two Meta Quest 3 headsets and used spatial audio to make the voiceover and sound effects more immersive. Essentially, what we created provides a consistent pre-counseling experience to all patients considering or planning to undergo IVF and creates a solid foundation for future counseling sessions.

The Final Product

What we created for Yana was a mixed-reality experience that would allow couples considering IVF treatments to explore the process together, in a shared virtual space, allowing for a two-way interactive and unified journey between the doctor and the couple. It is a co-located shared experience that the husband and wife can watch together, sitting side by side, each wearing a mixed-reality headset. The whole experience is calming and relaxing with soothing sounds and visuals as we emphasized the themes of clarity, trust and hope. It lets patients understand the entire process visually, clearly explaining each stage in a slow, meditative voiceover in simple Malayalam.

Benefits of XR

By demystifying the IVF process and providing couples with a clear, shared experience, we helped Yana IVF build deeper trust with their patients, improve communication, and reduce the emotional strain that often accompanies fertility treatments. Furthermore, Yana lives up to their name as a leader in innovative technology, both in reproductive technology as well as in patient communication and engagement technology. Couples who were once overwhelmed by the complexity of the IVF procedure can now feel empowered and informed, allowing them to ask better questions, be relaxed, and feel more confident in the IVF process.

An Unlimited Potential for XR in Healthcare

This project was a powerful example of how immersive technologies like mixed reality can transform healthcare. It not only showcased the potential of XR to enhance patient outcomes but also demonstrated the importance of blending cutting-edge technology with empathy and human connection. In creating this experience, we were able to redefine what patient care can look like in the healthcare sector—proving that sometimes, the best way to address complex medical challenges is through innovation, immersion, and, above all, understanding.
